Squarespace Design for Colorado Railroad Photographer

New Squarespace Website For Colorado Railroad Photographer

Squarespace Website Design for Colorado Railroad Photographer & Artist

Okay, a little bit of shameless self-promotion here. Colorado Pacific is the brand our Creative Director Clinton Webb uses for his railroad photography and art, but obviously we’re going to show off the site because it’s nothing less than gorgeous. Opening up with a video he took at the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad, you’re automatically thrown into the railroad theme. Colorado Pacific also has a few different logos that Clinton created, and they are on full display as well. Check out how he created this site using Squarespace while also integrating some pretty cool e-commerce functionality as well.

The Brief

Clinton needed a website to showcase his railroad photography and eventually sell prints. He wanted a website that emulated his love of railroads while also being functional enough for visitors to explore his work and buy prints if anything spoke to them. The site also needed to follow the fictional brand of his model railroad since it would eventually serve as a home for that as well Squarespace recently partnered with Printique, a high-quality print-on-demand service that offers print services and framing options. The best part? It all integrates directly into Squarespace. You can read more about the integration here, but in the meantime, let’s chat more about the design part of things.

The Design

The design of the site is fairly simple. Clinton wanted to display his railroad photography in a way that was fairly grand and made people want to buy prints of it for their homes. The home page features multiple banners of videos and photos that really let you enjoy a full-width view of the scenery. The interior pages are laid out with a large image or video up top and information below, which is fairly standard. The site almost emulates more of a wedding photographer’s site with large images showcasing the subjects. Most railroad photographers offer a gallery once you reach the interior of the site, but nothing really on their home pages. The colors and typefaces are chosen to fall-in-line with the fictional “Colorado Pacific,” which is Clinton’s own creation for his eventual model railroad. Pretty cool!

The Result

The result is a visual site that showcases Clinton’s work and allows potential customers to order prints of his railroad photography. While not being the main focus, the eCommerce side of the website is very apparent and the powerful Squarespace tools make it easy for this to be a formidable passive income stream.
