Colorado MEadery Gets The Norse Treatment for an Eye-Catching Brand
Meadkrieger came to Agave studio with one goal in mind, to reflect their love of mead and community
What an amazing first project to work on, we must say. MeadKrieger, a Fort Collins meadery, was our first branding client and we are so pumped we got to share this incredible journey with them from creating their logo to their first bottle designs. Keep reading to see how we brought together this 21st century brand with some Norse heritage.
THe Brief
MeadKrieger came to Agave Studio with some core brand values in mind. They wanted to focus on the tradition of mead being a community drink in Norse culture and bring in motifs and symbols that represent their brand. This carried over into their label design. MeadKrieger is translated to “Mead Warrior” so we only thought it was fitting to have a fierce Norse warrior grace the bottle.
The Result
The BRand Identity
The result is a Norse-inspired brand fit for a warrior king. A sturdy Viking ship anchors the brand mark with a bee inspired by a Celtic knot on the sail. The ship is surrounded by typography that conveys the Norse themes in the brand. Agave carried these motifs throughout the brand we created from the bottle design to business cards.
Bottle Label Design
MeadKrieger requested two label designs from Agave Studio, one for their traditional mead, and one for their oak barrel aged mead… we’re getting a little thirsty. The traditional mead label follows design cues from the logo, bringing in the brand colors of a deep red and hearty brown with gold accents to surround a depiction of a warrior. The label border features runes that Agave decided to have a little fun with. We typed out “MeadKrieger is the best mead in Fort Collins,” in a rune font… just for some subliminal messaging. The oak barrel aged mead label follows in the footsteps of the traditional label; but has a more exclusive look with a black label, gold emboss and red oak leaves. Both labels are sure to be eye-catching on liquor store shelves and were made for Burgundy wine bottle dimensions. Agave Studio also created back labels for both of these bottles.
