Setting Up a Donation Form On your Squarespace Site
What’s the best way to add a donation form to a Squarespace site?
Agave Studio explains the best ways to add a donation form to a Squarespace site
When you’re a nonprofit or other organization that accepts donations, it’s important to give your potential donors the easiest way to donate as possible. Agave Studio has worked with multiple nonprofit organizations on their website and have used multiple donation and donor platforms as a result. This post covers what we’ve learned so far about donor platforms, their ease of use for you and your donors, and how easy they are to add to your Squarespace site. We’ll cover three donation platforms we’ve used, including the Squarespace donation block, and their pros and cons.
Squarespace Donation BLock
The Squarespace donation block is a great option for nonprofits that are just getting their bearings and need a quick and easy way to get a donation form on their website as soon as possible. Squarespace offers a fairly simple donation block that accepts credit cards through Stripe and PayPal through the built-in Squarespace checkout. The Squarespace donation functionality also keeps track of donor information and can send a donation receipt to donors automatically after a donation is made.
Squarespace Donation Block Pros
Keeps donation information all in one place
Accepts credit cards and PayPal
Can ask donor if they want to be added to an email list in checkout
Checkout on your site with a Squarespace Commerce plan
Seamless integration with your Squarespace site
Squarespace Donation Block Cons
Doesn’t accept ACH bank transfers (electronic checks)
Can’t create multiple campaigns for multiple causes or events
3% transaction fee without a Squarespace Commerce plan
Few functionalities outside of donations
Only way to display form is with a button
Agave Studio is more than happy to get your nonprofit set up with the Squarespace donation functionality. If you’re building a new site in Squarespace, or transferring from a different platform, the Squarespace experts at Agave Studio can help you get the Squarespace donation form set up on your site to start receiving donations. Donorbox
We have to admit, here at Agave Studio we love Donorbox for adding a donation form to a Squarespace website. Our clients the South Park Rail Society and the Rusty Halo Foundation both use Donorbox as their donation functionality. Agave Studio helped both clients set up their Donorbox accounts and embedded the donation form right onto their donation pages. Donorbox is both easy to use for the nonprofit and the donor, and allows for other functionalities such as memberships, events and multiple campaigns. One of our favorite Donorbox features is the “Donor Wall.” This allows for donors to leave comments with their contributions and present them on a wall on your website. This creates a sense of community around your cause and encourages others to donate.
Donorbox Pros
Allow donors to help cover the 1.5% fee Donorbox charges and the 3% credit card fee for Stripe
Donors can automatically donate monthly or yearly
Offer memberships to donors with special perks
Automatically send donor receipt emails
Create multiple donor campaigns for multiple causes
Offer ticketed events
Accept ACH bank transfers, Venmo and PayPal
Embed donation form straight onto your Squarespace site
Offers donation matching with participating companies
Donorbox Cons
Donorbox charges a 1.5% fee per donation, which is more than what Squarespace charges with a Commerce Plan
Doesn’t keep donor information all in one spot
Have to manually add donors and members to an email list unless it’s Mailchimp
Doesn’t integrate well with bookkeeping software such as Quickbooks
Need Donorbox Premium for a lot of further integrations and features
Overall, Donorbox is a great platform for nonprofit organizations that are a little more established or just starting out and know what kind of functionalities they will need in the near future. Agave Studio has experience setting up and installing multiple Donorbox forms on a site, and we can help your nonprofit too! *Agave Studio is a Donorbox Partner and does receive a small percentage as a payout from each donation received by Donorbox users who sign up through our link above.
In conclusion…
There are multiple different donation platforms to choose from when working with a Squarespace site. Of course, these aren’t the only two platforms Agave Studio has experience with and can help embed really any donation platform into a Squarespace site. Over time we’ve discovered these are the two easiest to use for our clients and hope that you find success with whichever platform you go with.
Happy Nonprofiting!
